It doesn’t look like much. Battered, wire mesh — wrapped around a rocket-shaped skeleton — with wheels hardly bigger, than a grocery cart.

But what it symbolizes, for tens of thousands of people, who work in the mining industry, is a triumph of life. Maybe that’s why so many of them flocked to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to see an icon, in an industry where death, is an everyday occurrence. Scot Urquhart got a close-up look:
