A house in Burlington has sustained approximately $300,000 in damages after an electrical fire broke out late Tuesday night.

Crews were called out the home on Dunvegan Road around 9:40 p.m.

When emergency officials arrived on the scene, they reported that there were smoke and flames coming from the residence.

Two people were in the home at the time of the fire, but they were able to safely escape.

Authorities believe the fire began on the building’s second-floor balcony.

The fire lasted three hours and took 26 crew members to extinguish.

Burlington’s fire department believes the fire started from an “electrical failure,” and made mention of following the manufacturer’s recommendation when using space heaters. They added that the department would not be contacting the fire marshal’s office.
