Sports Tourism Canada has awarded the 110th Grey Cup festival with a PRESTIGE award.

The award names the festival the “Canadian Sport Event of the Year” for events with a budget greater than $1 million.

The award is aimed at recognizing “exceptional sports events, people and organizations” and is better known as a PRESTIGE award, which stands for “Program Recognizing Exceptional Sport Tourism Initiatives, Games & Events.”

“I’d like to thank the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the City of Hamilton, leaders from across the region and our friends in Niagara, for embracing our great game and hosting the biggest party in Canada,” said CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie. “To everyone who put years of planning and thoughtful consideration into this incredible Grey Cup – thank you.”

In total, nine recipients across eight award categories were recognized for their contributions to Canada’s sports industry.
