Ontario youth under 18 can show copies of ID when proving vaccine status

Youth under 18 can use a photocopy or digital version of an identification document with their proof of COVID-19 vaccination when attending businesses covered by Ontario’s vaccine certificate system.

Accepted forms of ID include passports, birth certificates, citizenship cards, drivers’ licences and health cards, among others.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says these types of IDs are usually not accepted but are allowed for people under 18.

Since youth don’t typically carry around birth certificates and passports, Restaurants Canada says staff have been forced to use discretion when enforcing the proof of vaccination system for younger people.

Residents aged 12 and older must show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 and a form of identification to access some non-essential services considered high-risk, including cinemas, gyms and restaurant dining rooms.
