Police looking for minivan in connection with theft of wedding bands in Niagara Falls

Niagara police have released photos of a vehicle wanted in an investigation into the theft of two wedding bands from a senior citizen in Niagara Falls.

Police now say they are looking for a dark-coloured minivan with white lettering on the passenger side window.

The theft happened on the afternoon of May 23.

Glen Hopkins, 88, was walking in the area of Dunn St. and Dorchester Rd. when a woman got out of her van and asked him for gas money in exchange for some gold-plated jewelry.

He said he felt bad for her and gave her $20 and then another $20.

That’s when she grabbed his hand and pulled the two wedding bands from his finger. The stolen rings are worth about $2,400.

The woman is described as South Asian, 5’10 with a heavy, muscular build.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
