Ontario reports 1,745 COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths

Ontario reported 1,745 cases of COVID-19 and ten deaths on Friday, as the government announced plans to open up vaccinations to people 75 and older.

The daily case count comes as the province completed 56,134 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into consideration the date tests were completed, is 3.3 per cent.

The province says 61,146 vaccine doses were administered on Thursday, for a total of 1,420,599 doses.

There are 294,749 people who are fully vaccinated in Ontario.

Another 1,296 cases have been marked as resolved.

Hamilton

• 11,613 total cases — up 124 from Thursday
• 10,515 resolved cases
• 621 active cases
• 111 in hospital
• 299 deaths  — up two from Thursday
• 64,196 vaccine doses given

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board says there is an outbreak at Dr. Davey Elementary School, with six confirmed cases. A staff member tested positive on Monday. On Thursday, four students tested positive and a second staff case was reported on Friday.

Halton

• 10,253 total cases — up 49 from Thursday
• 9760 resolved cases
• 293 active cases
• 21 in hospital
• 200 deaths  — up one from Thursday
• 299 total variant cases (includes confirmed cases and those who screened positive)
• 51,954 vaccine doses given

Niagara

• 9,119 total cases — up 48 from Wednesday
• 8,427 resolved cases
• 319 active cases
• 9 in hospital
• 373 deaths
• 14,432 vaccine doses given by Niagara Public Health

Brant

• 1,656 total cases — up four from Thursday
• 1,563 resolved cases
• 81 active cases
• 12 deaths
• 2 in hospital
• 31 total variant cases
• 18,696 vaccine doses given; 2,566 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

• 1,528 total cases — up ten from Thursday
• 1,436 resolved cases
• 48 active cases
• 39 deaths
• 14,945 vaccine doses given; 1,613 people fully vaccinated

A total of 7,212 people have died in the province, with nearly 54 per cent of those deaths reported in residents of long-term care homes.

There are 759 COVID-19 patients in hospital in Ontario. There are 309 in ICU with 176 of them on ventilators.
