Toronto and most of the GTA also got hit by the ice storm..

Around 250,000 people were without power in the GTA. Transit was also affected, with streetcar service suspended because of ice on the power lines. GO train service on the Lakeshore East was also shut down. Some subway stations lost power, and over 100 flights were cancelled at Pearson Airport today.

Airlines recommend checking your flight status before going to the airport. Toronto mayor Rob Ford called the storm one of the worst in Toronto’s history, and asked residents to look out for one another during this time.

“I know it’s cold. My house is freezing cold. I have little kids. We might have to go to a hotel tonight,” said Ford. “We have to manage. We have to help each other out.”

Ford also said if the weather worsens, the City of Toronto may be forced to issue a state of emergency.
