Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas is hoping that his good fortune continues when he tees it up at the U.S. Open Thursday.

The 22-year old first year professional made the most of a couple of fortuitous opportunities to qualify for the 113th open at Merion, outside of Philadelphia. Mackenzie’s journey to the Open is so impressive that he was mentioned at a USGA news conference Wednesday.

Hughes has been playing the e-tour and has made about $15,000 while making the cut in 7 or 9 events. He is scheduled to tee off at 9:12, weather permitting.
