Man hit by train

A man is dead after being hit by a freight train near Merritton in St. Catharines.

The incident happened about 11am Thursday morning.

He was found on the tracks near Merritt and Walnut streets.

Neighbours say they heard a long train horn and the brakes screeching.

The coroner’s report is expected soon.

His name has not been released.
