Update on Hindu Temple investigation

In a local attack in the weeks following 9-11, Hamilton police say they now have DNA profiles linked to the fire-bombing of the Hindu Samaj Temple.

The fire caused extensive damage and a man was arrested and charged with arson nearly a year later.

But those charges were later withdrawn by the crown attorney.

Since then police have been working on new leads.

They are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Ian Matthews of the Hamilton police service said: “I believe people out there know who was responsible for this crime. I believe they did not call because they thought they would be the only evidence linking these people to the crime. They are not. We now have DNA profiles linking these people to the crime.”

The fire caused $800,000 in damages.

The temple has since been rebuilt.
