Mac food strike drags into seventh day

It’s been a week – but students aren’t any closer to seeing more on-campus restraurants opening back up.

Workers are concerned over job security and say full-time staffers are being replaced by casual workers who are hired only to receive minimum wage. Terri Marshall of SEIU local two says “Mac should be setting up a precedent for Hamilton, keeping us above poverty level, that’s basically what we’re all about.”

There has been a reduced number of eateries open for Mac students since the strike started, and buses in that area have been diverted.

The union rejeceted an offer made last week — an offer the university says was very similar to one accepted by operations and skilled trades workers last year.
