The passenger accused of threatening a Sunwing plane leaving from Pearson Airport yesterday was released on bail today.

Ali Shahi was granted $1000 dollars bail in a Brampton court and was taken to hospital for an assessment on his mental condition.

His father Sadegh Shahi spoke to media outside the court.

“Ever since he was, 14, 15 years old and this depression and problems caused all the problems for him and us and we have called the police on him over 23 times we hope they could help him and unfortunately they didn’t”

His parents insisted that he be taken to hospital for mental assessment.

Shahi stood in the prisoner’s box dressed in a t-shirt and sweatpants, at times looking a little dazed

He has not entered any plea to the charges against him which include mischief, uttering threats and endangering an aircraft

There was an unfortunate footnote to the Sunwing trip.

Yesterday the second flight for the vacationers had to be diverted to Jamaica because of a passenger health problem.
