Rainbow colours blanket Toronto

Today was the first full day of World Pride festivities in Toronto.

The 10-day festival celebrates love, diversity and freedom. Two million people are expected to attend this year’s festivities.

It kicked off last night as 25,000 people saw the Pride flag raised at Nathan Philip square.

Toronto has a very successful Pride celebration but World Pride commands a more global feel. The executive director for Toronto pride Kevin Beaulieu says they have partnered with 300 community organizations from museums to galleries to festivals to make this one bigger & better.

Last year, Pride raked in $286 million when just over one million people attended. This year, two million people are expected, meaning a bigger windfall for the city.
