So the CFL season, or at least the start of it, could be in jeopardy. Tonight, right here on CHCH, Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski, was on the game show ‘Jeopardy.’ Dyakowski was a contestant.

“Hey Canada, you’ve got a contestant on Jeopardy tonight. Hey southern Ontario, I’m Hamilton offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski. Watch me crush the competition tonight on Jeopardy.”

A high profile game show appearance isn’t the only thing on offensive lineman — and CFLPA player rep — Peter Dyakowski’s mind. When the league rejected the union’s latest offer on Monday night, it meant that the CFL season is very much in “jeopardy”.

Peter: “This was a big effort, we felt, on our part to get this done — put it to bed. And it didn’t go the way we thought it was going to go and now, once again, we’re back to square one.”

The union had reduced their proposed salary cap by more than a million dollars, and conceded to a number of contract changes proposed by the league. Reports have now surfaced, indicating that seven of the CFL’s nine teams have voted 98 percent in favor of a strike.

Peter: “If we can’t get progress going it is an unfortunate reality, but a lot can happen in a week.”

At training camp, Dyakowski continues to recover from a knee injury he sustained at the Grey Cup, but he’s been put on the nine game reserve to start the season. Even though he’s not actually participating in the drills, Dyakowski’s veteran presence has been of great value to his teammates, both on and off the field.

Peter: “We have a lot of good players, young guys who have to step up. Good depth, we’re in great shape.”

In Jeopardy which aired tonight, Peter finished last with $400. He came home with $1,000 U.S. And a greater appreciation of how contestants do on the show.
