Halton police say a 20-year-old woman was shot while driving her vehicle in a Burlington parking lot after a sporting event.

Officers were called to a report of a shooting shortly after midnight at Century Dr. between Harvester and South Service roads on Monday.

Police say multiple rounds were fired at the victim’s vehicle and one struck her head. The woman was immediately taken to hospital and is in serious but stable condition.

Investigators say the victim was shot when she was exiting the private parking lot of The Playground Global, a gym that hosts recreational basketball games.

Investigators say there were two other individuals inside the same vehicle as the woman.

The investigation is still in its early stages at this time, police say it is unknown why this victim was targeted.

The suspect is believed to have been standing outside of a vehicle at the time of the shooting, and then fled the scene northbound on Century Dr. towards the South Service Rd.

Anyone with dashcam footage of that area including Appleby Line and Burkloak Dr. is asked to contact Det. John McMullan at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316.

It is believed the suspect was driving a light-coloured vehicle.
