WestJet nixes flights between Hamilton and Atlantic Canada

First Published:

WestJet passengers looking to take off from John C. Munro and hit the country’s east coast will have to catch a flight with another airline.

In March, the airport unveiled its Summer 2024 schedule, which included a packed itinerary for the summer months offering affordable legs between Hamilton, St. John’s and Halifax as well as non-stop connections to Calgary and Orlando.

Three months later, Florida is the only remaining connection from Hamilton offered by WestJet.

On Monday, many passengers who had already made plans and booked flights to the region were met with an unexpected email, informing them of the cancellation of their flights.

A look at the WestJet schedule operating out of Hamilton’s airport reveals that there are no longer flights being offered to the Atlantic region beginning July 1.

A spokesperson for Hamilton’s John C. Munro International Airport called the airlines new revised scheduled “disappointing.”

“It means a reduction in passenger service from Hamilton to several destinations at the outset of the summer season. While the Hamilton region has a proven history for affordable passenger travel, it is clear that passenger travel remains volatile, particularly for secondary airports in larger catchments, such as Hamilton International,” Colleen Ryan said.

They added that passengers can continue to fly directly to Calgary from Hamilton with WestJet.

CHCH News has reached out to WestJet but has yet to hear back.

“The Airport has effectively managed volatility in its business for more than 20 years and will continue to do so well into the future,” Ryan said.
