Western University students were on campus to protest this semesters COVID-19 mandates

A group of Western University students held a protest against the school’s COVID-19 mandates on Saturday.  The London University says anyone on campus this Fall must have at least 3 COVID-19 shots and wear masks in classrooms.

Western University is the only post-secondary school in Canada with these kind of mandates.

Hundreds of students, parents and supporters demanded that the university change its COVID-19 policies.  The group marched through campus and encouraged passing cars to honk in support.

The university announced on Monday that it was implementing a policy that students, staff and faculty be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have received at least one booster dose.  It is also mandating that masks must be worn inside instructional spaces, such as classrooms.

Western University issued a statement ahead of Saturday’s protest saying in part, ‘Our Fall health and safety plans have one goal in mind:  to ensure a healthy community so that we can protect in-person learning throughout the school year’.

The University says it would review its COVID-19 policy partway through the Fall semester.

London’s Fanshawe College decided not to mandate the vaccine or masking requirements this Fall.

Meanwhile, the University of Toronto and Trent University are requiring those who live on residence to have three doses and two doses respectively.
