The first-ever football fusion is being introduced in Canada
In Burlington, some young athletes are getting a taste of ‘Fusion Football’.
While the sport has gained popularity state-side, this is the first for Canada. It’s a way for young football players to learn the game without actually tackling.
It’s called ‘Taklebar Football’, also known as ‘Fusion Football’ and the concept is pretty simple. It is not flag football and it’s not quite a tackle either. It’s right in the middle. How it works is that each player wears a harness and instead of a ‘full’ tackle, they wrap up, grab a foam bar and that is considered a tackle in tackle bar football.
The Fusion Football is a lot less dangerous with less of a risk of getting a concussion. The goal is to teach young athletes the proper way to tackle at the mid-section.
Saturday’s camp was held by the Burlington Minor Football Association and it was an introduction to the sport. After the training session of ‘Fusion’ Football, the young athletes will have the option to progress into tackle football if they choose to continue with the sport.
The ‘Fusion Football’ season runs until mid-November and based upon feedback and popularity-they plan to be back next year.
