After backtracking on his heritage and facing allegations regarding his company’s bid for federal contracts, Liberal MP Randy Boissonnault is stepping down from his position as Employment Minister. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his office made the announcement, stating they agreed that the Edmonton MP should step away while he works to clear his name.

Boissonnault had been facing calls to resign following a National Post report claiming that his grandmother was not Indigenous. He clarified that it was his “adoptive mother and brother” who were Métis when questioned about his family tree.

Now, the Prime Minister is tasked with reworking a cabinet that is now half-empty.
