Carney’s Liberals secure majority government in byelection sweep

The federal Liberal government now has a majority, tightening Prime Minister Mark Carney’s grip on power. The Liberals won all three of Monday’s federal byelections, giving them 174 seats in the House of Commons. This makes Carney’s the first federal government in Canada’s history to switch from a minority to a majority between elections, paving the way for his party to govern with a stronger mandate.
