Carney removes federal consumer carbon tax, gas prices dropping

After six years of contentious debate over Ottawa’s decision to tax carbon on consumers, the national levy is gone.

Liberal leader Mark Carney scrapped the consumer portion of the tax as his first act as Prime Minister a few weeks ago, making April 1st, the first official day Canadians should expect to see price changes in home heating and at the gas pump.

Drivers can expect to see the carbon charge drop from $17.60 per litre.

It’s likely motorists are not seeing the full savings just yet as economic and energy experts say you should expect to see prices lower gradually over the next few days.
