Tow truck driver charged with stunt driving in Stoney Creek

First Published:

A tow truck driver has been charged with stunt driving after he was allegedly caught going more than twice the speed limit on Stoney Creek Mountain.

Officers were in the area of First Rd. East and Mud St. shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

They spotted a red Chevrolet Silverado tow truck passing another vehicle at “an astonishing rate of speed” as it was heading down First Rd.

Police say the vehicle was clocked going 130 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.

Officers pulled the truck over and charged the 33-year-old driver with speeding and stunt driving.

The Stoney Creek man’s licence has been suspended for seven days and his truck was impounded.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 25.

Hamilton police are reminding residents to drive safely. “Violators who engage in high-risk driving behaviours threaten the safety of all motorists,” said police.
