Provincial government moving Hamilton into lockdown on Monday

First Published:

The City of Hamilton is returning to lockdown on Monday.

The government made the announcement in a news release sent out Friday afternoon.

Hamilton will move from the red “control” level of COVID-19 restrictions to grey “lockdown” at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

The province says the city’s case rate increased by 37.6 per cent, to 109.4 cases per 100,000 people, from Mar. 15 to Mar. 22.

Over the past week, the positivity rate in the region is 4.6 per cent. The province’s high-alert threshold is 2.5 per cent.

Under lockdown, indoor dining is no longer allowed at restaurants.

Gyms will also close but outdoor fitness classes and training will be permitted.

Starting Monday personal services like tattoo shops and haircut salons will no longer be able to open, but that’s changing that starting Apr. 12.

“Personal care services including but not limited to barber shops, hair and nail salons, and body art establishments, will be permitted to operate at limited capacity on an appointment basis only,” said a government news release.
