Police charge St. Catharines man in armed gas station robbery

Niagara police have charged a 40-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery in St. Catharines last week.

Officers say a man with a handgun entered the Esso gas station at 179 St. Paul St. West.

The man stole a chocolate bar, cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash from the till. He then ran from the gas station.

Police say the lone employee was not injured.

Nicholas R. Selvig of St. Catharines was arrested Wednesday and charged with disguise with intent and robbery with a firearm.

Selvig is scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines courthouse Thursday.
