Ontario reports 1,054 COVID-19 cases, nine deaths

Ontario reported 1,054 cases of COVID-19 and nine deaths on Wednesday, as the province provided more information on its vaccination plan.

This comes as the province completed 54,852 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were done, is 2.4 per cent.

Another 1,291 cases have been marked as resolved.

Hamilton

• 10,247 total cases — up 42 from Tuesday
• 9,439 resolved cases
• 376 active cases
• 281 deaths — up two from Tuesday
• 31,866 vaccine doses given

Halton

• 9,321 total cases — up 37 from Tuesday
• 8,906 resolved cases
• 221 active cases
• 194 deaths  — up three from Tuesday

Niagara

• 8,514 total cases — up 13 from Tuesday
• 7,889 resolved cases
• 256 active cases
• 369 deaths
• 9,729 vaccine doses given

Brant

• 1,450 total cases — up three from Tuesday
• 1,392 resolved cases
• 46 active cases
• 12 deaths
• 6,989 vaccine doses given; 2,514 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

• 1,410 total cases — up two from Tuesday
• 1,340 resolved cases
• 26 active cases
• 39 deaths
• 4,514 vaccine doses given; 1,427 people fully vaccinated

Six Nations

• 264 total cases — up six from Tuesday
• 232 resolved cases
• 29 active cases
• 3 deaths

 Another 17,141 vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday, for an overall total of 602,848 doses given.

There are 251,590 people in the province that have received both required doses and are fully vaccinated.

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 is down from 718 to 675. There are 287 people in intensive care, with 182 of them on ventilators.

There is a slight increase in the number of cases of variants of concern.

There are now 395 cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, first reported in the U.K.

Cases of the B.1.351 strain, first reported in South Africa, remained steady at nine.

There is still just one case of the P.1 strain first reported in Brazil.
