Leading experts spotlight key women’s health issues

As part of Women’s Health Week, Emily Vukovic spoke with several experts from Hamilton Health Sciences about important health issues affecting women at every stage of life.

Dr. Sonia Anand discussed women’s cardiovascular health, with a focus on identifying risk factors among diverse ethnic groups and improving prevention and awareness. Dr. Alison Rodrigues, an eating disorder specialist for teens and youth, shared important warning signs parents should watch for when it comes to eating disorders in young people.

Dr. Andrea Eisen highlighted the role genetics can play in breast cancer and spoke about ongoing research projects aimed at improving understanding, screening, and treatment. Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou focused on healthy aging for women, emphasizing the importance of exercise, wellness, and staying active as women grow older, including the types of workouts offered at Juravinski Hospital.

Together, the discussions highlighted the importance of education, prevention, research, and healthy lifestyle choices in supporting women’s health.
