Effective emergency contraception
A new review finds an intrauterine device, or IUD, is the most effective form of emergency contraception.
When used as an emergency contraceptive, the rate of pregnancy is less than one per thousand women, while the morning after pill has a failure rate between 1 and 3%.
IUD’s are more expensive and women may not be able to get it within a five to ten day window.
However, researchers say a majority of doctors don’t know the devices are an option for emergency use.
