Diabetes and sleep
Not getting enough sleep or a good night’s rest could expand your waistline.
Researchers compared a group of healthy adults over six weeks who alternated between sleeping 10 hours a night, and then getting only five hours of sleep during different parts of the day.
Experts say the shift-like sleep patterns led to poorer glucose regulation and lower metabolism.
That could translate into a yearly weight gain of 5 kilograms.
Poor insulin secretion could lead to an increased risk for diabetes.
