Hamilton man among 10 charged in Peel police’s largest gun bust

First Published:

A Hamilton man is one of ten people who have been charged in connection with Peel Regional Police’s largest illegal firearms seizure to date.

In September 2023, the force launched an investigation dubbed “Project Chrome” into a group of people trafficking illegal firearms from the United States and distributing them across the Greater Toronto Area.

Since then, detectives say they have arrested 10 people from southern Ontario, laid 185 charges, seized 142 firearms and more than $1 million worth of cocaine, fentanyl, crack cocaine and Xanax pills.

Officers say about 180 rounds of ammunition and several illegal extended magazines were also recovered.

Kevin Dias, 45, of Hamilton is one of the ten arrested. He is facing multiple firearm-related offences, including two counts of firearms trafficking.

“This type of criminality poses great risk to the safety and well-being of everyone, and too often has had tragic implications in our communities,” said Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.

“We are proud of the investigative work that has made this project a great success and removed dozens of illegal firearms and drugs from our streets.”
