Hamilton police have identified the victim of a triple shooting at a house party over the weekend as 45-year-old Tobenna Obiaga of Halton Region.
Officers say the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday at a short-term rental property located at 1046 Highway 6 North in Flamborough.
Investigators say there was an assault inside of the home. The altercation continued outside, resulting in shots being fired at a car parked on the shoulder of the highway and at another car stopped at a nearby gas station.
One man with gunshot wounds was found in the parked car. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
In an update Tuesday, police identified Obiaga as the victim of Hamilton’s fifth homicide of the year.
“He comes from a large, loving family. They’re completely shocked and distraught over this,” says Det. Sgt. Daryl Reid in a press conference.
“This person has had no involvement with the police before and no one can understand or explain why something like this would happen to him.”
Two other people in the vehicle at the nearby gas station were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and were later released.
A fourth person with minor non-firearm-related injuries was treated in hospital and discharged.
All three of those victims are from the Greater Toronto Area, according to police.
Witnesses told police a dark-grey sedan fled the scene, but a suspect or suspects have yet to be identified at this time.

Detectives say roughly 60 to 100 people attended the house party.
“A number of people were stopped by responding police officers but we know there are several people who left prior to police arrival and we are urging those people to come forward with any information that they have.”
Reid says the owner of the short-term rental property is cooperating with police.
Investigators are expected to execute search warrants Tuesday afternoon at the home and in several cars.
Hamilton police’s homicide, canine, forensics and traffic units are involved in this investigation, as well as Halton police and Ontario Provincial Police.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Det. Mike Ebert at 905-546-4167.
