The office of federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos says Canada is dedicated to implementing MAID for those with a mental illness by prioritizing their safety and security.

Duclos says that they will continue to listen to experts and intend to work with provincial and territorial counterparts to ensure a strong framework is in place before MAID becomes available for individuals with mental disorders.

The federal parliamentary committee evaluating the law to expand MAID issued an interim report in June and scheduled to publish a final report in October. But the report has been delayed until February.
