Haldimand Norfolk MP Diane Finley has resigned from the House of Commons.
Finley has represented the federal riding as a Conservative since 2004 and served in several cabinet posts under Stephen Harper.
She officially tendered her resignation on Tuesday, the eighth anniversary of her husband Doug Finley’s death.
“I just want to say thank you again to all the wonderful people whom I’ve been blessed to have in my life in what has been an amazing political journey over the last 16 years, 317 days,” she said virtually in the House of Commons.
“So farewell and be well.”
Finely says her resignation is effective immediately.

“Diane’s legacy will live on in the halls of Parliament, and politicians of all political stripes should strive to serve with the same commitment and passion to their constituents,” said Conservative leader Erin O’Toole in a statement.
Finley announced last summer that she wouldn’t run again.
Former leadership candidate Leslyn Lewis will run in her place.
