With Hamilton being a steel city, the 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminium that went into effect Wednesday are causing local leaders to worry about the everyday workers here in our city.

Mayor Andrea Horwath and a local union president say the tariffs would have a major impact on the local economy causing companies to lose money and as a result, workers could lose their jobs.

Another steel workers union president CHCH spoke to over the phone also expressed his frustration with the uncertainty surrounding the tariffs.

He says at this point all they can do is hold their breaths and hope for a good outcome.
