The City of St. Catharines will take over fire dispatch services for Welland Fire and Emergency Services starting on Wednesday in a 15-year agreement.

Welland fire says this will strengthen emergency communications and regional coordination while continuing to provide the dependable emergency response residents rely on.

This new agreement connects Welland fire with a modern, Next Generation 911 compliant communications centre while improving coordination with neighbouring fire departments across Niagara.

“Ultimately, these improvements strengthen how we respond to emergencies and help us continue providing the high level of fire protection residents expect,” said Matt Richardson, Welland’s acting fire chief.

Residents will not notice any changes during this transition. There will be no changes to how emergency calls are made or how Welland Fire and Emergency Services responds to emergencies.
