Welland man charged after waving replica firearm in argument

Niagara regional police charged a man from Welland Tuesday after he allegedly armed himself with a weapon during an argument.

Officers were called to an apartment on Ontario Road between Southworth Road and Wright Street at around noon.

Investigators say a man had been involved in a verbal argument in the area.

They say the argument then escalated, at which point the man had armed himself with a weapon.

Police was able to contain the man inside his apartment, and the man was arrested just before 1 p.m.

Detective say the firearm involved in the argument turned out to be a replica of a weapon.

21-year-old Alexander Lampman of Welland has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.

Lampmen was held for a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse scheduled for Wednesday.

Officers do not believe there is any further threat to the public.
