A composting company in Welland is facing a $200,000 fine for odours coming from the facility.

The charges against Universal Resource Recovery stem from strong smells that caused “adverse effects” and from exceeding daily limits on the amount of materials allowed at the facility. The company, which composted organic food waste generated from municipal green bins, shut down back in May of 2011.
