Water flows at Niagara tunnel

The Niagara Tunnel is a step closer to being fully active.

Workers have opened the valve allowing water to flow from the Niagara river to the tunnel gates.

When the water is level with the river, crews will remove the water barrier.

Once in service, water will flow through the tunnel to the Sir Adam Beck Generating Stations, and will provide enough electricity to power about 160,000 homes each year for the next 100 years.
