Hamilton Police held a press conference Friday afternoon to discuss details surrounding a suspicious death investigation in Waterdown.

Hamilton police responded to a call to attend a home in Waterdown Thursday at 8 p.m.

Det. Sgt. David Brewster with the Hamilton Police said that 55-year old Dirk Nyhuis – who was called “Jeff” by his friends – was found dead in his home, from a gunshot wound.

He said that this is Hamilton’s third homicide of the year.

Police say that the man appears to have been the intended target of the attack, and that the man was home alone.

The detective said that it is too early to determine if Nyhuis was robbed during the attack.

The police homicide unit was called in to continue the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police
