Warning about roaming charges in border areas

The Consumers Association of Canada is drawing attention to what it says is a national issue covering every cell phone provider in the nation.

Anyone with an active cell phone in close proximity to the U.S. border – for example, along the Niagara River – risks having signals from American carriers interfere with their cell phone signals, resulting in what cellular toll collectors falsely interpret as roaming charges. Roaming charges can result in hefty fees.

The CAC advises every cell phone user to be vigilant over their billing statements because it regularly receives complaints from residents across Canada.
