Voters will head to the polls on Monday to decide if Alberta should remain in Canada or if the province will hold a second, binding referendum to leave Confederation.

The separation question is one of 10 questions on the ballot. The first nine questions focus on immigration and the Constitution.

On Sunday, labour leaders and the head of Alberta’s federalist referendum campaign called for unity after the tragedy at CFB Wainwright.

The rally outside the Alberta legislature came one day after separatists assembled with blue Alberta flags to cheer for independence.

Elections Alberta says over 1.3 million residents have already cast an advance or mail-in ballot, out of about 3.1 million who are eligible.

The numbers suggest the final count could be record-breaking.

Polls across the province will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
