Ontario Provincial Police has identified two people killed in a multi-vehicle crash on a major highway near Toronto.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dixie Rd. in Mississauga.

The fiery collision involved a silver Mazda, a Chevrolet Corvette, and a tractor-trailer.

Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said initial reports indicated the Corvette lost control after passing the semi-trailer and then collided with the truck. The collision forced the truck into the express lanes where it struck the Mazda, rolled and burst into flames.

The driver of the Corvette, 34-year-old Gurcharan Brar, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schmidt said a 77-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Mazda and has since been identified as Glenda Parker, was taken to hospital where she later died. Three others were also taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.
