US Steel employees to appeal

Unionized employees at US Steel are appealing a decision earlier this week that gave the steelmaker priority in the ongoing bankruptcy hearing.
United Steelworkers confirmed its plan to appeal, Friday, as the union is looking to overturn the Superior Court decision which came down on Monday.
The union’s Ontario Director says USW disagrees with much of the decision.
The union says the court unfairly put the burden on ‘it’ to prove its objections to US Steel’s claims that 2.2 billion dollars in loans to the Canadian Arm are actually debt.
The union is also appealing because it says this week’s decision largely ignored that US Steel knew US Steel Canada was insolvent when it granted the secured claims
In a statement, Friday, the union said, ” The reality is that this week’s court decision was just about phase one of the US Steel claims trial. In phase two, the court will hear the United Steel Workers objections to how US Steel has treated its Canadian plants and pensioners.”
