We’re learning this morning why a court hearing involving U.S. Steel was postponed yesterday.

The hearing was supposed to resolve a number of motions around the company’s ongoing creditor protection if three days of mediation didn’t resolve disagreements… but in a release this morning the union says the talks are continuing for a fifth day.

The United Steelworkers say they can’t provide any details, but the union wants to assure members and retirees that the priorities of protecting jobs, pensions, and benefits have not changed.

The union is now calling on supporters to be in court on October 7 and 8 when U.S. Steel’s plan to stop certain pension and benefit payments is expected to be reviewed along with other matters.
