Horizon Utilities officials will look for support with a merger deal at a city committee meeting Wednesday.

The company was created when Hamilton Hydro and St. Catharines Hydro merged in 2005.

It now wants to merge again with utilities in Mississauga, Barrie, Markham and Vaughan.

If the deal goes through, it would make the new company the largest municipally owned utility in the province.

Hamilton owns nearly 80% of Horizon, making city approval key to the deal happening.
