TVO announces layoffs of 9 editorial positions from staff
Layoffs have been announced at Ontario’s public broadcaster TVO with nine editorial positions from a staff of 70 to have been let go.
There are no impacts to TVO’s flagship show “The Agenda”, with most of the cuts to the stations web team.
VP of Programming and Content John Ferri said in a statement that the layoffs impact five members of the web team, two managers, and two other positions.
He said that the station has not cancelled any journalist broadcast programming, or “moving away from journalism.”
Instead, they are focusing their website more on documentaries, video and podcasts than on just text.
The network says it will continue producing eight to twelve TVO Originals a year and maintain production of journalism podcasts.
