United States president-elect Donald Trump has been named Time magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’, the magazine said Thursday.

Trump was also named Person of the Year in 2016, when he upset the democratic candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the presidency.

“This is an honour, a tremendous honour,” Trump said Thursday about the announcement.

“And I have to say, Time magazine, getting this honour for the second time. I think I like it better this time, actually, but we did a good job.”

Time has named a Person of the Year every year since 1927. It was called Man of the Year until 1999.

The magazine says it makes its selection based on the person’s influence and importance in a given year.

Trump, who will be inaugurated on January 20, became only the second president in American history to lose re-election and then reclaim the White House four years later.

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, whose 1.5-year worldwide ‘Eras Tour’ finished last week in Vancouver, was named Person of the Year in 2023.
