Trial begins for Hamilton man accused of killing ex-girlfriend in Kitchener

The trial of a Hamilton man accused of murdering his girlfriend is underway Thursday in Kitchener.

It has been nearly six years since Melinda Vasilije, 22, was found dead in her Kitchener apartment from over 30 stab wounds to her throat and chest.

Her ex-boyfriend Ager Hasan fled the country but stayed active on social media explaining how it happened.

“I go up to her and try and give her a hug, almost out of no where she grabs a knife by the sink.I tried grabbing the knife, but ended up cutting my hands. Out of shock and fear, I grab one. I hit her with it, almost blindly. A few times. I didn’t know what happened. I was confused, shocked and scared,” he wrote online.

Hasan was arrested in Texas and extradited back to Canada over a month later.

He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. The trial is expected to last six weeks.
