Townhouse fire kills 10-year-old boy, sends family to hospital

A 10-year-old boy has died and his mother and sister are fighting for their lives after a townhouse fire in Scarborough early Saturday morning.

The fire happened at a home in the Kingston Road and Galloway Road area at about 6 a.m.

Toronto police say the woman and her daughter were taken to hospital in serious condition.

The father and two other children were also taken to hospital. They are expected to be okay.

The Housing Authority says it appears smoke detectors in the home were working.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.
