Townhouse fire kills 10-year-old boy, mother and 3 siblings remain in hospital

A 10-year-old boy has died and his mother and three siblings remain in hospital after a townhouse fire in Scarborough Saturday morning.

The fire happened at a home in the Kingston Road and Galloway Road area at about 6:00 a.m.

Family members say Mark Mrochuk had been fighting a brain tumour for the past year.

The three other children are all under the age of 10.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.

The Housing Authority says it appears smoke detectors in the home were working.

The investigation is ongoing.
