Townhouse development in Burlington torched by arsonists — again

A partially-completed new construction townhouse development by Branthaven Homes in Burlington has now experienced its third suspected arson attack.

Halton police say around 2:00 a.m. Friday, two people entered the complex on Appleby Line and Taywood Drive. The pair threw gasoline on multiple townhouse units that were recently completed and set to close. After lighting the gasoline, they are believed to have fled on foot.

The same units were targeted in another arson that took place October 2024, which caused $2 million in damage to the homes.

In August 2023, another suspicious fire at the same townhouse complex caused $3 million in damage.

Despite the two previous blazes, the development is in the final stages of construction and consists of a mix of occupied and unoccupied homes. Residents of one of the occupied homes were able to escape without any injuries.

Police describe the suspects as males, dressed in all black with face coverings and hoods.

Anyone who may have dash cam or surveillance footage of the area is asked to contact police at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316.
